• University of South Carolina Scholarships

The Stamps Scholars, Carolina Scholars and Hamilton Scholars Awards are the University of South Carolina’s most prestigious awards bestowed on South Carolina residents. If you have a strong academic record and are a leader in your high school and community, we encourage you to apply for the Top Scholars competition for these awards. Fifty scholar candidates are invited to participate in an interview weekend, after which 20 candidates are named Carolina Scholars and 25 are named Hamilton Scholars.

Additionally, the top five candidates will be nominated as Stamps Scholars and will interview for the chance to receive an enrichment stipend to fund opportunities such as undergraduate research, study abroad, service projects or unpaid internships. Candidates must participate in the entire weekend (Feb. 24-26, 2018) in order to remain in consideration for these awards. In 2017, Top Scholars had an average SAT score of 1520 (ACT score of 34) and had an average weighted GPA of 4.82.

Approximate Award given to students:

• Stamps Scholars annual award: Up to $20,000
  Four-year value: Up to $90,000
• Carolina Scholars Award annual award: $15,000
  Four-year award: $60,000
• Hamilton Scholars Award annual award: $10,000
  Four-year award: $40,000

To apply for these Scholarship awards, you must submit both a USC application and a Top Scholars application supplement to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at South Carolina University.

• Palmetto Fellows Scholarship

Annual value: up to $6,700 for the first year
Four-year value: up to $29,200

This scholarship awards students  $6,700 for the first year and up to $7,500 for each of the next three years. If you are an SC high school student with exemplary academic credentials you are elegible. Students who are named Palmetto Fellows will receive a minimum $3,000 Dean’s Scholars award or equivalent (such as Valedictorian, if applicable). For more information, contact your high school guidance counselor or the SC Commission on Higher Education. Palmetto Fellows recipients are not eligible for LIFE or SC HOPE scholarships.

• Palmetto Fellows and LIFE Scholarship Enhancements

Palmetto Fellows and LIFE Scholarship recipients enrolled in certain math and science majors may be eligible for an enhancement award beginning in their second year of enrollment. Eligible students must have completed 14 hours in mathematics or life or physical science, or any combination of both, during their first year.

Award per year: $2,500
Three-year award: $7,500

• Watson Brown Foundation Scholarship

The Watson-Brown Foundation awards $3,000 and $5,000 renewable scholarships to high school seniors and current college undergraduates. To apply for this scholarship students need to write an essay. In order to be eligible students must be from the following counties in South Carolina: Burke, Columbia, Elbert, Glascock, Hart, Jefferson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren or Wilkes counties in Georgia or Aiken, Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenville, McCormick or Spartanburg countiesStudents must also plan to attend any four-year, accredited college in the country.

A student’s permanent address must be within the designated county region. Current high school seniors or current undergraduate students may apply for the scholarship. Students must plan to attend a 4 year, accredited, non-profit college.The Foundation recognizes colleges and universities accredited by one of the six regional accreditation agencies, such as SACS.

Students who receive this scholarship may attend any four year non-profit accredited institution in the United States. The only 2-year college exception is Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia.

Inorder to renew your scholarship students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA (3.5 for the $5000 level scholarship).  Take a full course load (12 credit hours). The Watson-Brown Foundation will only award funding if you maintain at least 12 credit hours.

• Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Program

he Archibald Rutledge Scholarship program, named for South Carolina’s first poet laureate, offers twelfth-grade students (enrolled in a public school in South Carolina) the opportunity to compete for a scholarship in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts as well as encourages and recognizes academic and artistic excellence among South Carolina students.

Five scholarships (approximately $2,000 each) will be awarded in May 2017. The South Carolina Department of Education will make the necessary arrangements to transfer the scholarship funds directly to the South Carolina college or university of the student’s choice. Students planning to attend an out-of-state college or university are ineligible to apply. The recipients may also be recognized by their local schools/school districts.

Eligibility requirements:

• Students must currently be enrolled in twelfth grade in a public school in South Carolina.
• Students must plan to attend a South Carolina college or university.
• Students must be a U.S. citizen and have attended public school in South Carolina for the past two years.
• Students may only apply for one scholarship.
