  • Tennessee HOPE Scholarship:

The HOPE Scholarship, also known as the Lottery Scholarship, is funded by the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program. To receive HOPE funding, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The deadline for fall semester HOPE awards is September 1 of each academic year.

Elegibility requirements:

  • Students must have a minimum of a 21 ACT (980 old SAT or 1060 new SAT), exclusive of the essay and optional subject area battery tests OR
  • Overall weighted minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) – This means a grade point average on a 4.0 scale calculated with additional internal quality points awarded for advanced placement, honors, or other similar courses according to the Uniform Grading Policy adopted by the State Board of Education.
  • Home School graduates – minimum 21 ACT (980 old SAT or 1060 new SAT), exclusive of the essay and optional subject area battery tests
  • GED Applicants – minimum 525 and 21 ACT (980 old SAT or 1060 new SAT), exclusive of the essay and optional subject area battery tests
  • If a student ceases to be eligible for HOPE, except for the General Assembly Merit Scholarship (GAMS) and the
  • Tennessee HOPE Access Grant, the student may regain HOPE one-time only.
  • ACT/SAT exams must be taken prior to the first day of college enrollment.
  • Have been a TN resident for one year by September 1 of the application date. For students beginning spring and summer terms, residency determined by February 1 as of application date,
  • Graduate from a TN eligible high school.

The application for the HOPE Scholarship is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be accessed by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov

  • Middle College Scholarship

Tennessee Middle College Scholarship program expands eligibility for the Tennessee HOPE scholarship to students who earn an associate degree from a state community college. The program uses proceeds from the Tennessee Lottery to help fund the two-year scholarship program for rising high school juniors who are interested in earning their degree from a community college while they also work toward completing high school.

The Tennessee Middle College Scholarship program is available for students enrolled in an eligible community college partnering with local school districts. Students who complete the Middle College and earn an Associate degree must enroll at an eligible 4-year institution to receive the HOPE Scholarship

Elegibility requirements:

  • Be a Tennessee resident for one (1) year prior to the date of application
  • Obtain a minimum 3.0 high school GPA at the end of the Sophomore year

note:  To retain the scholarship, students must maintain at least a 3.0 college GPA in each semester. If a student’s GPA falls below a 3.0 in any semester, the scholarship will be discontinued for that student.
