LOUISIANA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS:

• TUITION DONATION REBATE PROGRAM

The Tuition Donation Rebate Program empowers low-income Louisiana families with the financial resources to choose the school that will best prepare their children for college and careers. This program provides rebates to Louisiana state taxpayers that donate to School Tuition Organizations, tax-exempt, not-for-profit organizations. School Tuition Organizations use these donations to provide scholarships to students in low-income families.

To be eligible for a scholarship, students must have a family income that does not exceed 250% of the federal poverty line and must be entering kindergarten, enrolled in a Louisiana public school, or enrolled in the Louisiana Scholarship Program. Students apply directly to School Tuition Organizations for scholarships. Once they receive a scholarship, students then apply directly to the nonpublic school of their choice for enrollment.

School Tuition Organizations determine the amount of the scholarship. Scholarship amounts cannot exceed the lesser of either the school’s tuition and mandatory fees or 80% of the state average per pupil funding for elementary and middle school students (approximately $4,000) and 90% of the state average per pupil funding for high school students (approximately $4,500). Parents must pay the difference of any tuition and fees not covered by the scholarship.

• ADVANCED PLACEMENT Advanced Placement courses offer students the opportunity to earn college credit by taking rigorous courses in high school. Students who demonstrate mastery of the material on a national standardized end-of-course exam – a score of 3 or higher out of 5 – may be eligible for college credit for the course.Most students who complete Advanced Placement coursework are:
• Better prepared for college-level work
• Stand-outs in the college admissions process
• More likely to continue beyond their freshman year in college
• More likely to graduate within 4-5 years
• More competitive in qualifying for scholarshipsWith AP®, students can get a feel for the rigors of college level studies while they still have the support of a high school environment. When students take AP courses, they demonstrate to college admission officers that they have sought out an educational experience that will prepare them for success in college and beyond.Performing well on an AP Exam means more than just the successful completion of a course. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3 or higher typically earn higher GPAs in college and have higher graduation rates.
