• Washington State Need Grant

The State Need Grant (SNG) program helps the state’s lowest-income undergraduate students pursue degrees, hone skills, or retrain for new careers. Students can use the grants at eligible institutions in Washington.

Elegibility requirements:

• Be a Washington State resident.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Attend classes at one of the eligible institutions in Washington.
• Enroll in an eligible program with a minimum of three credits as an undergraduate student.
• Pursue a first bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a first associate degree in any field of study excluding theology.
• Make satisfactory academic progress.
• Not exceed five years of SNG term usage or 125% of enrolled program length.
• Not owe a repayment to another student aid program.

The application process for the State Need Grant is simple. All you need to do is complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly known as the FAFSA. To apply online or review your status go to www.fafsa.gov.

• The College Bound Scholarship

The College Bound Scholarship was established by the Legislature in 2007. The purpose of the program is to provide state-funded financial aid to low-income students who may not consider college a possibility because of the cost. Eligibility for the scholarship is a two-part process. First, students whose families are income-eligible must submit a complete application during 7th or 8th grade, and no later than June 30 of their 8th-grade year.

Second, students must complete the scholarship pledge requirements and meet income-eligibility guidelines as determined by colleges using data from the student’s FAFSA or WASFA in their senior year of high school. The scholarship covers tuition (at comparable public colleges), some fees, and a small book allowance.

• Grays Harbor Community Foundation Scholarship

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation awards scholarships to local students for education after high school. The emphasis is on undergraduate studies at any two or four year college or university and vocational/technical programs leading to a license or certification. There is only one application. When selected, the recipient is matched to the criteria of an individual scholarship by the scholarship review committee.

Scholarship Amount:$20,000.00

Elegibility requirements:

• Must be a resident of Grays Harbor County
• Must have graduated from a Grays Harbor County high school
• Must submit a complete application following the guidelines under “How to Apply.”
• Must request renewal on-line each year to continue receiving a scholarship (up to 4 years).
•  Must enroll as a full-time student (12 credits minimum) at an accredited college, university, or trade/vocational school
• Is more likely to be considered with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (or its equivalent B average) in both high school and college, if applicable.

Beyond meeting these basic requirements, each applicant should exhibit outstanding character, a proven work ethic, and the promise of useful citizenship. These more qualitative judgments will be based on the applicant’s personal essay, letter of recommendation, and other information provided through the application form. Renewable for up to four years Virtually all our scholarships are renewable for up to four years.

• Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship was created by the Washington State Legislature and funded by private industry and the state to help low- and middle- income state residents earn first bachelor’s degrees in eligible high demand majors in science, technology, engineering, math, (STEM) or health care. WSOS provides scholarships of up to $22,500 and valuable professional development and industry exploration opportunities to low- and middle-income students pursuing high-demand degrees in-state.

The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship provides awards of $2,500 per year for entering freshmen, sophomores and first term juniors fall 2017-2018. Scholarship amounts will be increased to $5,000 when a student has completed enough credits for junior class standing and has been admitted into an eligible high demand major in science, technology, engineering, math or health care. The scholarship will be increased again to $7,500 when students have achieved senior class standing.

The scholarship will be renewable for up to four additional years depending on class standing and meeting renewal criteria. Up to 780 students will be selected for the 2017-2018 academic year.
