Rhode Island Higher Education Assistance Authority awards students from $2,500 to $10,000 in grants every year for students who are part of the CollegeBound Fund program.
This scholarship is available to students who have a financial need.
Elegibility reuirements:
- based on high SAT or ACT scores
- financial need demonstrated
- must be resident of Rhode Island
- senior in high school or current college student may apply
To keep recieving this scholarship financial aid students musrt keep up their academic performance for the life of the grant scholarship. Only state students that are legal residents of Rhode Island can apply for the award.
- Rhode Island Promise Scholarship
Rhode Island promise covers full tuition to a state college. It will pay for the remaining cost of tuition and mandatory fees incurred based on enrollment in at least 12 credits after free money (Pell, SEOG and institutional aid) has been applied. Rhode Island Promise lasts for two academic years and covers the fall and spring semesters in each of those years.
Students who pay for tuition, and then receive Rhode Island Promise, will be refunded once the Rhode Island Promise scholarships are officially disbursed. These refunds are scheduled to begin on Oct. 10.
Rhode Island Promise does not cover textbooks, but there are other forms of financial aid that help students pay for textbooks, including federal grants and loans. Upon completion of the financial aid application process, each student will receive more information about his/her individual financial aid package.
Rhode Island Promise program may have funds available to support a limited number of summer scholarships, but that is dependent on available funding in the overall Rhode Island Promise budget. The scholarship is only guaranteed for the fall and spring semesters. Rhode Island Promise can be applied to any associate degree program at CCRI. It may not be used for certificate or non-credit programs.
Students are eligible for Rhode Island Promise if they enroll at CCRI for the semester immediately following their high school graduation or completion of a high school equivalency diploma. GED recipients are eligible for Rhode Island Promise if they enroll at CCRI in the semester immediately following GED completion and are younger than 19 when they complete the GED.
- Beatrice S. Demers Foreign Language Fellows Program Scholarship
The scholarship provides for fellowships for Rhode Island residents and any student from a Rhode Island college or university who wishes to pursue a foreign language study. Preference will be given to applicants from the University of Rhode Island who meet the qualifications.
The Demers Fellows Program is designed to support applications from a wide range of individuals. Applicants can be undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, educators, or other residents of Rhode Island. Successful applicants will all share one thing: a passion for developing fluency in another language. The Fellowship may support the costs of tuition, fees, travel, housing, living expenses, and other costs. The award will be paid directly to the Fellow.
Award decisions will be announced in April of each year. The Fellowship project may be completed during the summer or in the following academic year. Fellowships may not be used to support research or writing of a dissertation or thesis, or for pursuit of an area of study other than language learning.
Only those applicants who plan to attend programs that commence by June 2018 should apply for 2017 consideration.
Elegibility requirements:
- Evaluation of the applicant’s dedication to foreign language learning.
- The likelihood that the proposed program of study will promote a high level of foreign language fluency.
- Promoting a diversity of languages studied, program types, and individuals receiving fellowships.
- Preference will be given to applicants from the University of Rhode Island who meet these criteria.
- Fellowships are expected to be in the range of $1,000 to $20,000 with numerous awards given each year.
- Applicants who have applied in the past and were not selected may re-apply.
- The United States Senate Youth Program
The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The 56th annual program will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 3 – 10, 2018. Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action.
Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.
Elegibility requirements:
- A student must participate in the Washington Week. If a selected student is unable to participate, merits of his or her reasons will be considered by the program director relative to the scholarship award.
- A student must, within two years after high school graduation, enroll at an accredited United States college or university and attend courses in government or related subjects to his or her undergraduate program.
How to Qualify - U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Current high school junior (Class of 2019) or senior (Class of 2018) enrolled and attending a public or private secondary school in Rhode Island
- Currently serving in an elected capacity in a student organization for the 2017-2018 school year such asthe following:
- Student Body president, vice president, secretary or treasurer
- Class president, vice president, secretary or treasurer
- Student Council representative
- Student representative elected or appointed (appointed by a panel, commission or board) to a local, district, regional or state-level civic, service and/or educational organization approved by the state selection administrator.
