ROTC Scholarships available right now

The AFCEA Educational Foundation offers ROTC scholarships to qualified students ranging from $2,000-$3,000. Each scholarship are awarded to an Army, Navy (including Marine Corps option) or Air Force ROTC fulltime sophomore or junior students with at least an overall 3.0 GPA or above.

The AFCEA Educational Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational incentives, opportunities and assistance for students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines focused on information technology, cybersecurity, telecommunications and electronics supporting the defense, homeland security and intelligence communities.

ROTC Scholarship
Prospective aApplicants must be enrolled full-time in degree major that is related to the mission of the AFCEA Educational Foundation: Biometry/Biometrics, Computer Engineering, Computer Forensics Science, Computer Programming, Computer Science, Computer Systems, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geospatial Science, Information Science, Information Technology, Information Resource Management, Intelligence, Mathematics, Network Engineering, Network Security, Operations Research, Physics, Robotics Engineering, Robotics Technology, Statistics, Strategic Intelligence, or Telecommunications Engineering. (Majors related to medicine, nursing, political science, psychology, chemical, civil, aerospace and mechanical engineering are not accepted.)

ROTC Medal of Honor Scholarship
The AFCEA Educational Foundation, in partnership with the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, offers four $5,000 Medal of Honor scholarships and four $4,000 Distinguished Achievement scholarships to outstanding students enrolled in the Army, Navy (including Marine Corps option) and Air Force ROTC programs. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, be of good moral character, exhibit academic achievement and have a demonstrated potential to serve as an officer in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Medal of Honor and Distinguished Achievement scholarships do not require a degree major related to the mission of AFCEA Educational Foundation.

VADM Jon L. Boyes Scholarship
The Dr. Jon L. Boyes, VADM, USN (Ret.) $3,000 Memorial Scholarship has been established to honor Vice Admiral Boyes’ memory and accomplishments. Vice Admiral Boyes served as president of AFCEA International for ten years, during this time he established the AFCEA Educational Foundation.

One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving Navy ROTC midshipman majoring in Electrical Engineering. Candidates must be at least second-year college students, enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors at the time of application. The scholarship has been endowed in perpetuity through the generosity of AFCEA International.

Mort Marks and Joan Bowden Scholarships
AFCEA Joan Bowden $3,000 ROTC Scholarship was established in 1987, by the Montgomery AFCEA Chapter Educational Foundation. Scholarship is in memory of Ms. Joan Bowden, 1984-85 President, and member of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery AFCEA Chapter. The Joan Bowden ROTC Scholarship is presented annually to an ROTC student attending a university located in the AFCEA Mid-South Region of the United States: to include, the states of; Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and northwest panhandle of Florida.

AFCEA Mort Marks $3,000 ROTC Scholarship established by the Montgomery AFCEA Chapter Educational Foundation. ROTC Scholarship is in memory of Mr. Mort Marks, a member of the Montgomery AFCEA Chapter who made many significant contributions and support to the chapter to further its Educational Foundation and benefactors. The Mort Marks ROTC Scholarship is presented annually to an ROTC student attending a university located in the AFCEA Mid-South Region of the United States; to include, the states of; Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and northwest panhandle of Florida.

Degree major must meet the mission of AFCEA.

ROTC Scholarships General Requirements:
NOTE: ONE APPLICATION FORM for all available ROTC Scholarships: Medal of Honor, Distinguished Achievement, VADM Boyes, Marks, Bowden and ROTC Scholarships

Freshmen and seniors are ineligible to apply. Fifth year engineering students are eligible to apply in fourth year.

All applicants must be of good moral character; demonstrate academic excellent with required at least required minimum GPA for each program; have a financial need; and the potential to serve as an officer in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Only one Medal of Honor and Distinguished Achievement ROTC student per service should be submitted from each school – the top ROTC student. For the ROTC Scholarship it can be as many at the school has that qualify – meet the major requirement.

All applications must be endorsed and submitted to the AFCEA Educational Foundation by the respective ROTC Professors of Military Science, Naval Science or Aerospace Studies.

Elegibility Requirements:

  • Letter of Nomination from ROTC Unit Professor of Military Science, Professor Naval Science, Professor of Aerospace Studies or designed Commanding Officer as appropriate for all applicants. If applying for the Congressional Medal of Honor and/or the Distinguished Achievement Scholarship, Letter of Nomination must include endorsement based on the additional requirements.
  • Two additional letters of recommendation from current or recent professors in your field of study. E-mails will be sent to these individuals along with instructions on electronic submission once you complete the application.
  • Transcripts of all college-level courses must be submitted (an official transcript from the registrar’s office or have your unit print your transcript, sign to verify and email to edfoundation@afcea.org). Non-verified copies will not be accepted.
